Somali shilling under presssure by US dollar.

Counterfeited Somali shilling has forced a large percentage of the locals in Beled Weyne in the Hiiraan region to ditch the tattered paper currency for mobile money transfer.

Traders in that town opted to use U.S. dollar on business transactions via EVCPLUS (an electronic Voucher Card) known as cash mobile wallet, KNN reports on Friday.

Residents took to the streets to protest against the decision by local business people.
